Why I started

Restoring Boring Studio began during a time of change in my life. After leaving my corporate career and welcoming my first baby, I was looking for something that would allow me to build a business around my family while doing work I genuinely loved.
I've always been drawn to restoring and creating beautiful spaces, but it all really started with our own sofa. After falling in love with the look of a Loaf sofa (and seeing the price tag!), I decided to reupholster our existing one instead. That project sparked something in me and led me to explore upholstery, furniture restoration and the satisfaction of transforming tired pieces into something truly special.
Over the years, I'd bought my fair share of flat-pack furniture, only to replace it a few years later. It made me appreciate just how well older furniture was built. Vintage pieces have a quality, craftsmanship and character that's hard to find today. They're made from solid materials, designed to last for generations and often have stories of their own.
That's what inspires my work. I love preserving the uniqueness of these timeless pieces while giving them a fresh, contemporary feel. Whether it's carefully restoring a vintage sideboard, breathing new life into a well-loved chair or creating bespoke upholstered furniture, my aim is always the same: to create beautiful, functional pieces that can be enjoyed for many years to come and ultimately help, in a small way, to save a landfill full of of discarded vintage finds and flat packed furniture.

G-Plan Fresco Sideboard

This original G-plan Fresco sideboard carefully restored to honour its original craftsmanship while giving It a contemporary update. The teak top was stripped and refinished with Osmo Hardwax Oil, while the cabinet was hand-painted in Farrow & Ball Studio Green for a timeless finish.

Before

A well loved G-plan sideboard had spent years in storage and was beginning to show signs of age. The original teak had lost its lustre, the finish was tired and the piece no longer reflected the quality of its design despite remaining structurally sound.

During

The cabinet was carefully dismantled and thoroughly cleaned before the restoration began. The teak top and handles were stripped back and sanded by hand before being refinished with Osmo hardware Oil to revive the natural grain. The cabinet was meticulously prepared and hand-painted in Farrow & Ball Studio Green, giving the piece a contemporary update while preserving its original mid-century character.

Final Result

The finished sideboard combines timeless G-Plan craftsmanship with a fresh, modern aesthetic. The rich teak contrasts beautifully with the deep studio green finish, creating a statement piece that celebrates sustainable restoration while being perfectly suited to contemporary interiors.

Parker Knoll Chairs in Boucle Fabric

These original mid-century Park Knoll armchairs were thoughtfully restored to celebrate their timeless British craftsmanship whilst giving them a contemporary update. The solid beech frames were sanded, refinished with natural oils and waxes and traditionally reupholstered in Roger & Goiffigon 'Cirrus' boucle (ice crystal), creating a timeless pair that balances classic British design with modern interiors.

Before

A pair of Parker Knoll chairs sat unused in a garage with the fabric and foam getting mouldy. They looked tired with worn fabric and the wood showed signs of age from decades of use. Despite their condition the solid beech frames and iconic Parker Knoll design provided the perfect foundation to restore them back to their former glory.

During

The chairs needed a full repair and restoration including ripping out the old fabric, taking out the foam and ripping up the original jute webbing. All new premium foam, natural kapok wool, hessian and jute webbing were installed. The wooden frames were sanded back removing the old finish and a danish oil and hard beeswax was applied to replenish the beech wood. The outer fabric was replaced with a luxurious Roger Goiffigon designer boucle fabric.

Final Result

The finished chairs celebrate the timeless craftsmanship of Parker Knoll while introducing a fresh, contemporary feel. Combining beautifully refinished beech frames with soft boucle upholstery, they offer lasting comfort and elegant mid-century design.

Vintage Bureau with Floral Decoupage Interior

This vintage bureau was thoughtfully restored to celebrate its beautiful burr walnut veneers while introducing a fresh, contemporary update. The exterior was hand-painted in Farrow & Ball Studio Green with the interior finished in Farrow & Ball Sulking Room and lined with a floral decoupage paper, creating a hidden feature that transforms the piece every time it's opened. The original wood grain was carefully preserved and refinished to showcase its natural character, resulting in a bureau that balances classic craftsmanship with modern design.

Before

A well made vintage bureau with beautiful burr walnut veneers but a dated finish that no longer reflected its original character. Although structurally sound, it was ready for an update while retaining the features that make it unique.

During

The bureau was carefully prepared before being hand-painted in Farrow & Ball Studio Green, while the burr walnut drawer fronts and writing surface were refinished in Danish Oil to bring out the richness of the natural grain. The interior was painted in a soft Farrow & Ball Sulking Room pink and finished with a floral decoupage lining, creating a hidden decorative detail that adds character every time the bureau is opened.

Final Result

Wing Back Parker Knoll in Pure Linen Fabric

Vintage Danish Style Teak Sideboard

This vintage Danish-style teak sideboard has been carefully restored to celebrate the natural beauty of the timber while preserving its original craftsmanship. The teak has been cleaned, refinished and protected with Osmo Hardwax Oil to enhance the rich grain, creating a timeless piece ready for many more years of use.

Why I chose this piece

I spotted this sideboard on eBay and knew it was worth the trip. Collecting it turned into quite the adventure, as the lovely seller – a retired university professor in her seventies – helped me carry it down two narrow flights of stairs. We laughed our way down, carefully avoiding the walls and some rather impressive paintings before finally squeezing it into my car. It's one of those collections I'll never forget, and it makes me smile knowing the piece has gone from a cherished family home to being beautifully restored and ready for its next owner.

Why I chose this piece

I found this chair outside someone's house with an old cushion still attached to the seat, looking as though it had reached the end of its life. Beneath the dirt and worn upholstery, though, I could see a beautifully made solid oak frame that was far too good to throw away. After carefully restoring the timber, I wanted to give it a fresh identity rather than simply recreating the original. The bold Christian Lacroix velvet brings a vibrant contrast to the traditional craftsmanship, turning an overlooked everyday chair into something full of character that feels equally at home in a period property or a contemporary interior.

The original factory finish has been carefully removed to reveal the timber beneath, allowing the rich grain and striking burr walnut veneers to take centre stage. Why I chose this piece

I bought this sideboard from a family who were preparing to move overseas. Although it was structurally excellent, years of factory finish had hidden much of the natural beauty of the timber beneath. Rather than simply refreshing the existing finish, I decided to strip it back completely. It was a time-consuming process, but as each layer came away the warmth of the walnut and the intricate burr veneers gradually emerged. The result is a piece that feels much closer to the craftsmanship that originally went into making it—showcasing the natural materials rather than masking them, and ready for many more years of everyday use.
